Today in church I realized that we have been here just over one month. I think generally I view most stressful events in my life as "shouldn't be too bad" which more often than not kicks them into the "emotionally damaging" arena. Which I don't realize until about a month after the fact, when I look back and see that it really was a difficult thing for me, and maybe I shouldn't have been so hard on myself for having lots of depressing thoughts? Also maybe not a good time to finish weaning my *last* baby and going off the mini pill and onto new BCPs, which I haven't been on for 9 years? Maybe. But some fun things happened regardless of my struggles, and luckily I have the pictures to prove it.
Ada thought this was pretty cool. I can't believe she started walking and was weaned and Isaac was potty trained, all in the six months we were there. So lucky to have my mom's support during such busy baby/toddler times. And boy was Ada busy....
Lily and Jack didn't get sick of sharing this bed until about 3 weeks before we moved. Then they alternated turns on the couch. I thought it was pretty funny - they could last 5 months and 1 week but that was IT! Even with the end in sight.
Here is cute Isaac. He has had very strict tuck in rules for a few months. He has to be laying straight down with his clothes not messed up, his water bottle and for a time the cookie monster Lily got him for Christmas in sight, he lifts his arms up and I carefully lay the blanket straight on top of him, and then another. He is particular about his blankets. If he was a rascal and got up once or twice he would still whine about needing to be tucked in. Ha! You couldn't mess up his blankets while giving him kisses and hugs either, so those were basically done push-up style, even when he requested lots of kisses and would then cover his mouth with both hands and I had to give the password (all six family member names) twice (one for each hand).
Lily showing some flowers a neighborhood boy from the bus gave her. He was the son of a woman I visit taught. That was such a nice place to be with nice people all around.
I taught Jackson's primary class and after a few minutes of Jack like this with his shirt answering a question, I couldn't help it and took a picture. Actually a video which I showed him later and we had a good laugh. I once walked by his room and he was stuck in the garbage can. He can be pretty silly and a little rascal sometimes.
Bees! With help from Uncle Steve, Adam got some hives and was SO EXCITED when his bees came. They are doing well so far and we are hoping to get honey in a few months.
We sold Edgewood! I still can't believe it isn't ours anymore. What a yard, but so grateful we don't have to take care of it anymore!!! We went up for a weekend to do a few things the buyers were requesting. It was really hard to see that beautiful place. We got to visit a few people from the 3rd ward and go to Warrens for their yummy food, the Dinosaur Park, and a stop by Winco for me to go crazy buying cheap food. Miss those prices!
We all slept on the floor. If I had brought the air mattress we might have stayed one more night, but dang that was uncomfortable. It was really hard to say good bye to Ogden again.
Isaac found Lily's old boots and wore them everywhere. So cute.
Except to church. Adam was upset enough that Isaac wasn't wearing shoes along with his absolute abhorrence for church clothes. We forgot shoes for Ada, so when Lily got out of the car with one blue flip flop and one dirty falling apart shoe, Adam turned around to go home....it was pretty funny. We still went, as do people really notice what other people are wearing? I sure never do.
Isaac went through a withdrawal from Grandma's house and constant movie choices. The first few mornings we would beg to go to Grandma's house before breakfast. He loves a show and popcorn!
After Isaac started using the potty he reminded me he could now go to gymnastics, which I was using as a motivation. He didn't stop reminded me for a few weeks, and Mom kept on saying "just get him in a class!" So we found one that we just loved! I went the first few weeks with him to help him along but he goes by himself now. I am curious to see if he still loves it in a year or so. He says "gymnastic-ses". So cute. I can't believe he is starting preschool in the fall!

establishment
I labeled this post and went to start it about two months ago in February. I felt like we had some sort of establishment despite not knowing when or if our home would sell, and also despite having any clue as to where I even wanted to look for a home. But now tomorrow is May 1st, our home in Ogden is closing today, and we are in the process of buying a home in Little Valley near Liz. So some catch up is in order! Hopefully I didn't forget too much of the good stuff. It has been a very nice six months.
Ada started walking in December, and by January was up all of the time! She is such a mover, and keeps Grandma on her toes! Mom is always willing to watch the kids if I need to go somewhere, and definitely takes the edge off of staying at home. She has left town on two different weekends, both of which I kind of broke down, probably due to not having another adult to talk to face to face any time I want.
It is still really hard to think that she is my last baby!!! I think we are all done with weaning now, but once I knew it would be soon I tried to take lost of pictures to capture the wonderfulness that is nursing a baby to sleep.
Mimi bought matching jammies for the girls. So darn cute. Ada was sick for so much of the winter. We all were really. Two different doctor visits both showed double ear infections. Lots of medicine, lots of cuddling - but also lots of whining and not getting ANYTHING done because she wanted to be held all of the time.
Whenever she was feeling good, it was like she had to make up for the lost time. She now basically just runs around looking for easy messes to make or places to get into. Liz was babysitting her once and found a glue gun plugged in behind a chair. Liz is currently her favorite person ever. Ada runs to her like a long lost child to her mother, and kicks and screams whenever Liz leaves and hands her to me. I like my kids to have people they like but really it's kind of ridiculous. I am a bit nervous to be in their ward, since I am pretty sure all 4 of my kids will want to sit with Liz, and zero of her kids will want to sit with us. Which might actually turn out awesome! Haha!
I love this shot of Isaac in motion. He is such a cute three year old. Lost the two year old cuteness and added quite the tantrum aspect, unfortunately. He is very spoiled with movies and popcorn and chips on most days, especially when Grandma is babysitting him. They have quite a funny relationship. One morning Mom mentioned to me that it was a good day since it was 9:00 a.m. and he hadn't threatened her with throwing her in hot lava. He is quite violent in his vocabulary, talking a lot about punching people in the face, or the hot lava comments.
Jackson has loved being with cousins. The current obsession is Pokemon cards. Crazy! I hoped it would be a fad but nope. They are apparently the greatest thing in the universe, which is nice because it has lessened the amount of begging for watching Star Wars cartoons on the computer or having a phone with games.
Adam is so far enjoying his new job at TCN. For a while it seemed the added stress was an equal trade with not really liking his job at JD Clark, but things are evening out a bit so that is good. Everything has a transition period, I guess.
I have to admit I don't particularly like living in the desert during a drought. If you ask the kids if they like living here, they will inevitably say they miss the snow. We told them at the beginning we would take them to Pine Valley for snow, but then we only got one storm, which was bad enough that we didn't want to go up the steep dirt hill to the cabin. So their snow time lasted about 20 minutes on the street, mostly due to the fact that while we found most of the snow equipment in the storage unit, we only found one pair of gloves.
Back at the beginning of December Mindy texted and asked if I wanted to do a weight lifting program at the gym. Saved my sanity and got me to get rid of the 10 pounds I gained during the move from Ogden. I feel very lucky to live near my sister in laws - they are good friends. Mindy, Audrey and I met at Bloomington Hills park one day with the kids. This picture doesn't show their two babies - 13 kids all together!
One thing I have always wanted to do if we moved down here was to start a book club. I did and it has been fun so far! Good books and good conversations, and a night away from the kids. The group is Peggy (although they are moving to Australia in two weeks or so), Becca, Mindy, Audrey, Liz, two of Becca's in laws, and a few other friends I don't know too well. I really love book clubs. My visiting teaching partner also invited me to join a Learning Circle, a group of moms in the area that read an article every month and meet to discuss the challenges and rewards of mothering. The goal is to be a deliberate mother, and I have loved the insights from the other women and the chance to be in a setting where we can talk about the frustrations of child raising (without kids around to hear) and to really feel like we're not alone. I have enjoyed that so far.
Swimming during spring break. We found some boxer undies for Isaac to wear as a swim suit. hehe Finally one that doesn't fall down! When he was wearing swim diapers it was okay, but now that he uses the toilet he just has nothing to hold up a normal suit. I think we had one poop in the pool incident before he came along...then he had two within about a week and apparently Adam and I shamed him enough that he trained himself in about a week to not have any accidents (with oreos and mini marshmallows as incentive). So that was nice. It was kind of challenging to even start with him since Mom insisted he had a diaper on so he wouldn't pee on all of her stuff. Totally understandable! Ada is another little water baby, and loves to jump in and splash around. Such a cutie.

Lily bore her testimony of one night that she and Jack went to get her out of her crib because she was crying, and saw she was covered in throw up. Lily told how she said a prayer that Ada would feel better the next morning, and she did. Lily never does the formulaic testimonies, tells very detailed stories that worry Adam and I down in the stands, but she always shares something faith promoting.
The Groves came to visit before moving to Germany for three years! It was so fun to see them. We went to the Snow Canyon sand dunes and to Zions. It was a pretty cold and rainy day but so beautiful.
Jack and Jake. Such good friends, Jack was very sad to hear they wouldn't see each other for so long! Jack is showing the (sad for me) signs of growing up. Every so often he will refuse hugs and kisses and seems to show frustration more than he used to. Such a sweet heart. After he was sick one day, he went to get dressed and came back with a favorite outfit. He asked me quietly, "Did you clean my clothes while I was sick?" I said yes and he responded with a "thank you" and a hug. Best thing ever, as I believe that is one of the first times anyone has ever thanked me for doing laundry!!I love this shot of Isaac in motion. He is such a cute three year old. We got Jackson into speech, which has been good. We think the chair he sits in is pretty hilarious, his therapist called it "supportive" after I suggested "confining". She has sent home games that the kids love to play, and Jackson is really good at practicing sentence structure and pronunciation.
We thought we would take the kids again a few weeks later. We went on the Canyon overlook trail, one that I did a bunch in high school and college. Before I had kids. Funny to compare how dangerous everything seemed this time around!!! Jackson is such a runner and jumper, I was freaking out almost the entire time at the top, whenever they got near this fence. That night I had trouble falling asleep, thinking about all of the places where the kids or Adam with Ada in his back pack *could* have fallen down the cliffside. Adam is so far enjoying his new job at TCN. For a while it seemed the added stress was an equal trade with not really liking his job at JD Clark, but things are evening out a bit so that is good. We spent a day in Vegas over spring break too. I am not a fan. Everything is so showy but in reality it is just average. We paid $60 for tickets to the Aquarium and it was basically being shuffled down a walk way next to some kind of big aquariums and then out the door. The kids did love the sharks though. We tried to pet the sting rays but they were too much of a reach for Lily and Jack. We also went to the Hendershot's trampoline park, which is so fun and the kids just love.

very merry
It was held at Desert Hills High School, where they have Thor's Hammer in a glass case. Jackson thought it was so cool, and made the best faces for pictures.
We went as a family to see the lights at the temple, and drove around to find some music displays - the kids watched for way longer than I thought they would.
Adam picked up this house - they are so not my favorite. Luckily the Tylers came over for dinner and a movie (The Muppets Christmas Carol!) and got the ball rolling so I didn't have to supervise at all, just let them eat all the candy and frosting they wanted. I don't have a picture of the Christmas tree, but I have to say that it was so fun this year to decorate with my childhood decorations - helped with missing our own that are away in storage.
Other highlights included a Christmas Music devotional over in Green Valley that Peggy was in and invited us to. One thing I really enjoy about living in St. George is being able to point out so many things to the kids about where Adam and I went to church as teenagers, or where we went to school, etc etc. Being back in that ward house brought back so many memories. We also had a ham dinner on Christmas Eve with the Tylers, and a very nice Christmas dinner at Terrel and Janet's the next day. All in all it was a wonderful Christmas, although seeing pictures of the beautiful snow up north is a bit sad.

beautiful celebrations
What a first week of December! Two birthdays, a baptism, and a Christmas party. For Lily's birthday, I sneaked her lunch out of her backpack, and when she called from the school asking where her lunch was, said I was around the corner and asked if she wanted to go to the Pizza Factory for lunch with me and Dad. She said yes! She was so cute and excited. That night we had dinner with the Tylers, then cake and presents. In the picture above she was telling Jackson not to blow out her candles (he tried to anyways).
She has been getting into all things Paris, and so the Dollar Store Eiffel Tower notebook I found was AWESOME! She was so happy with her presents this year, and I was so happy I didn't even entertain the idea of a friend birthday party!
She was so sad that Aunt Amanda couldn't be there to make her cake, but Amanda sent her this crown (tiara from her wedding...!) with a bunch of candy and a big birthday sign. Lily was so excited.
And baptism day! Except for me bumbling up the group text and not including Becca, the whole family in St. George was able to come. Lily was the only one getting baptized so she got to choose the opening prayer (me), talk on Baptism (Audrey), talk on the Holy Ghost (Liz), and closing prayer (Mimi). It was such a nice and simple program, and she was so incredibly excited. Afterwards we went to the park and had Cafe Rio for lunch. Again, so happy I didn't put it on myself to host everyone at Mom and Dad's house. So much less stress the way we did it.
That afternoon it was time to get ears pierced! Cousins Elyza and Brooklyn came along to watch. Lily's first choice was a 5 carat cubic zirconia, until I steered her to something that wouldn't weigh her neck down. She settled for her birthstone, and barely winced for the pokes. She is growing up!
That night was the Ward Christmas Party, which included a musical piece from the kids, and a sight I hope never to forget. Jackson was running around like crazy like normal. The Primary President called the Primary kids up to sing a song. I went up closer to see them. I could see Lily, not Jack, who wandered in a minute or so into it. He first slid into place, but then looked everywhere for Lily, and saw her on the other side. He goes to stand next to her. He then proceeds to make his shooting and bombing motions, and I see his lips doing the sound effects. Lily, who was slightly in back of him, was trying to get his attention without moving too much, finally did, and then pointed furiously to her mouth, as if to says "Sing!" So hilarious! Poor Adam missed the whole thing since he was outside changing Isaac's diaper.
Our little Ada celebrated her birthday the night before. What a precious girl. She loves to clap for anything, here she is clapping while we sang to her.
She enjoyed her piece of cake. She got a little water activity table that is currently on the back porch, waiting to be used in a few months....She is just the sweetest thing - this is the best age! So much fun. Right now she is trying to walk everywhere, and loves to be put upside down and get her neck tickled. She loves it when Adam chases her and will laugh and laugh when he swings her up. Lily and Jackson and Isaac are such big helpers and love to play with her - she is so lucky. She definitely is the frosting on top of our 6 person family.

nice november
Thanksgiving was over all of a sudden. It was really nice to not have to pack up and drive across the state for the big dinner. Very relaxing! We went out to the Bird's. The highlight was probably when the prayer ended, Lily was coming from MiMi's room with elaborate makeup, her hair done with jeweled pins, and a large shimmery scarf wrapped around her body like a dress. Her face was saying "Oh, what's happening out here? I have been preparing for the evening." I sure wish she had some girl cousins her age; the closest ones are 2 years older and 2 years younger.
The crack was closed, I guess they are doing a major overhaul up there for a park. It is Jackson's favorite place and he cried when we couldn't go there. We went to a different hike where the kids ran and explored. What a beautiful place - you just can't beat those blue skies and red rock.
Janet called the first week after I moved, asking if I wanted her to take Ada and Isaac every Wednesday or Friday for a day with Mimi.....ummm....talk about spoiling mom! What a luxury. Since Jackson has afternoon Kindergarten I get to spend the morning with him, and then have an hour or so after school with both of the big kids. One Friday we went for a bike ride on the river walk. What fun buddies. We went super far and Jack kept on teasing me with his tricks of riding with his feet on the seat, or one leg crossed over the other while he coasted. Little stinker, he just laughed when I told him to ride normal and to stop scaring me.
Shortsighted Mom didn't really pack any toys for Grandma and Grandpa's house, so the number one favorite play thing is either my phone or camera. Here are some of the little treasures I've found. Jackson seems so content here. I was telling Adam the other day that in Ogden I was always (always!) yelling for him in that big house and yard, but he always just ignored me and kept on playing. Here he is so much more responsive, and such a big helper. And such a sweetheart! He just loves Ada so much and is always making sure she is comfortable and happy. We have been reading books and he is getting so good with letters and math facts. Such a great boy.
I wonder when Lily will stop being silly. Hopefully never, as she loves to be crazy and make people laugh.
I spent $25 for a massive phone case that Adam makes fun of, but I totally don't care because this little missy can play and slobber on it all she wants and I never have to worry!
I have to say this month was very rewarding as a parent. I really felt bad about all of the different schools we put Lily in, and the fact that she had experienced set backs in her learning because of it. But because of being here and not having to set up house or unpack or anything, I spent a bunch of time working with {i.e. torturing} Lily. She was bringing home her 'bell work', little worksheets that everybody does first thing, and sometimes they were completely empty. Her teacher told me she wasn't getting her math review done in class, so she would bring that home to finish. Then she had her one page of homework and spelling. Some days we would be sitting for almost 2 hours working, struggling, crying, etc. She was getting 2/15 correct on spelling tests. By Christmas break she was closer to 9 or 10/15 correct on spelling, and one day I was helping Jack with something and went to check on Lily who was doing her homework sheet. She gave it to me and said, "It's all correct." And continued telling me how when the teacher was explaining the new concept she just knew what the answers were! She was so excited, and it was so exciting to see her and how all of the hard work paid off. Certainly isn't the end of the road, but so cool, especially watching her explain to house guests Carl and Nadine how she subtracts big numbers in her head (this was so crazy as when Adam and I first tried explaining the concept to her she got so mad and cried from frustration).
As for Isaac, when Ada took her afternoon naps I was pretty desperate that he not watch a show some days, so would get him to include me with his imaginative play, usually consisting of us hiding under furniture with guns and bombs so we could get the bad guys. The first time we did this, at one point he turned to me and said "I like you Mom." It was like it had never occurred to him that I was fun to play with?

spooky questions
In previous years I put off getting costumes for the kids, hoping that they will want to wear a previous years' garbs (I was a witch for about 5 years straight, my mom tells me), whereupon Adam finally drags the family to a Halloween store and wants to spend $30 a pop on whatever seems cool. For the last two years I tried to prevent this from happening by asking Liz if she had any extra costumes, which she spent $30 to send me in the mail, but I was happy since I was "recycling" something that a lot of times gets used once. Also I am not a seamstress so Adam would be beyond disappointed that I couldn't fancy up some of the outfits Liz sent...
So this year! I asked early, and Costco had them early, so we had a vampire (Lily wanted to have blood running down her chin), the Hulk, Wolverine, and of course our customary baby monkey. Success! For the first time ever. Matt and Jana came down and went trick or treating with us, which was really nice. I really liked being up north with them and getting together every so often.
On another October note, here are the kids on their first day of school, at a school picnic I met them at. What a great pair.
And their first time off the bus! Lily has been wanting to ride the bus ever since Jackson did for preschool; once she heard that Brooklyn and Zack ride their bikes that is her goal, but the bus suffices for now and gives me 1 1/2 hours more a day with the little babies. :)

there went the year
So quickly! Christmas was two days ago. The six weeks or so were quite painful as I worked through cutting the Ogden ties at the same time as sending large amounts of never-to-be-seen again money towards our still-for-sale home up there. Needless to say, I was a much more pleasant person to be around once I woke up and realized that I could look forward to the future with hope and optimism instead of despair and longing for my old life. So that was nice, and the counseling fees not terribly expensive. :)
I love these pictures even though my heart still hurts to think of the time they were taken - the last few weeks in Ogden. When I think about this year I don't feel like Ada's first year went by quickly - just the year in general. Even with all of the craziness of moving twice I still had lots of quiet times to enjoy this cutie.
One of her favorite things to do was get in the fireplace. Super annoying and dirty!
Waiting for Daddy to come home from St. George and our final week apart.
Jackson waiting for Matt and Jana (with Carson) to come get him for a sleepover. Lily went as well and it was nice to just have the two little ones to worry about for those last few hours of cleaning up the house.
This kid. His 2nd birthday was a waffle with a candle, and here he is with a crepe. Hopefully his 4th birthday won't be so hectic. Although this was just his birthday celebration with Adam before he left; we did have cupcakes and presents with Grandma (who was the other lifesaver this move) later on in the day. Now that he is almost 3 years and 3 months old I can say I liked 2 a heck of a lot better. Man he can wear me down, some days by about 8:05 a.m. But time passes, and we all love Isaac so much, as what family doesn't need a real live firecracker as a child/sibling???
